FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before launching your campaign.

Getting started

What is a peer-to-peer fundraiser?

Instead of one donation page for your whole organization, every participant - a student, an athlete, a walker, a volunteer - gets their own personal fundraising page to share with family and friends. Every gift rolls up into their team’s total and your campaign total. People give to people they know, which is why peer-to-peer campaigns routinely out-raise a single “donate” button.

How long does it take to get started?

Most organizers are set up in an afternoon. Create your account, verify your email, connect your bank through Stripe, then create a campaign and add your participants. Each participant’s page is live the moment you add them.

Can I see a demo before I sign up?

Yes. Schedule a free demo and we’ll walk you through a fundraiser like yours on a short video call and answer your questions. Just email us a few days and times that work.

Do I need a nonprofit / 501(c)(3) to use DIY Your Fundraiser?

No. Schools, PTOs and booster clubs, youth sports teams, churches, clubs, and registered nonprofits all use the same tools. You’ll just need to complete Stripe’s standard identity and bank verification so donations can be paid out to your organization.

Pricing & fees

How much does it cost?

There are no setup fees, monthly fees, or contracts. We charge a 10% platform fee on online donations - and donors can choose to add an optional tip that reduces your fee, all the way to $0. Card processing is covered by the platform fee, not charged to you on top. See Pricing for the full breakdown.

How do donor tips lower my fee?

A donor’s tip counts toward the 10% platform fee. If a donor gives $100 and tips 6%, your fee drops from 10% to 4%. If they tip 10% or more, you pay nothing and receive the full $100. Tips are always optional and never come out of the donation itself.

Are there fees on cash and check donations?

No. Offline gifts you record by hand (cash, checks, a matching gift that arrived by mail) count toward participant, team, and campaign totals with no platform fee.

Donations & payouts

How and when do we get paid?

Online donations are processed by Stripe and paid out directly to your organization’s connected bank account on Stripe’s standard payout schedule. We never hold your money.

Do donors need to create an account?

No. Donors visit a participant’s page, pick an amount, and pay with a card or wallet - no login, no app, no password.

Can donors leave a message or give anonymously?

Yes. Donors can include a note of encouragement with their gift, and can choose to give anonymously so their name isn’t shown publicly.

Does the “raised” total include tips and fees?

Participant, team, and campaign totals always show the gross donation amount. Tips and fees never inflate or reduce the number your supporters see.

Participants & teams

Do participants need to sign up for anything?

No. You add participants to your roster (by name and email) and each one immediately gets a personal page link to share. Returning participants are recognized by email, so next year’s campaign links back to the same person.

Can parents and guardians get updates for younger participants?

Yes. Each participant can have multiple contacts - themselves, parents, guardians, and supporters - and each campaign email goes to the contacts it’s meant for (families for a kickoff, supporters for a giving reminder).

Can we organize participants into teams?

Yes. Create teams (classrooms, squads, small groups), assign a team leader, and move participants between teams at any time. Team totals update automatically with every gift.
